I remember the what it was like to be a young hockey player. I had no clue what I was doing in the gym when I first started working out. I learned from going to Gold’s Gym and watching the meatheads do curls. This would have little to no impact on my life as a hockey player. I remember being unmotivated because I felt like I was not making progress in the right direction. That’s why I wanted to make this video. To show the young players who ask me for workout advice an easy and fun workout that anyone can do that will show tremendous results. Keep searching the workout that is right for you. But if you are not sure what to do, try 5.10.15 and feel good about it. Enjoy. More simple workouts to come!

I get excited when I meet people in the hockey industry who are motivated and passionate about their craft. There is so much of that coming out of Buffalo, NY. We recently teamed up with the boys from Just Dishin hockey for a video shoot at the harbor center. Time was of the essence and there was only a sliver to make it happen. Matt and Nick hit me up with a couple of different options for ice times. It was sick that we had the chance to get out on the ice at the Harbor Center bright and early just before I took off to NYC. We met up at 6 am and got right into filming. These shoots are fun to do because you never know what the final product will look like when you start. We both decided that we would share all the content and each make our own vids. Here it is: Buttendz X JDH Hockey Collabo. Music from @hilarymertaugh

butcher boys rule buttendz

Spring is in full swing and that means its LAX season. Put away the skates and grab your cleats. Lacrosse is a dynamic sport with so many similarities to hockey, its no surprise that many ice hockey players play lacrosse as well. The Butcher Boyz Rule are no different. CBanks and Max B. Money just started playing lacrosse this season and I noticed that they needed some Buttendz Paradox Lacrosse Grips for their twigs. I have not seen the boys in a while so it was a great opportunity to go over and get the boyz blinged out. Also, I needed to battle Carter in a rematch of NHL 18 3’s. Always a good time kicking it with the Butcher’s…Enjoy!

The time had finally come. After spending many hours training with Aito Iguchi and Yuga Okada, we were finally going to see the boys put their skills to the test with a big hockey tournament up in Nikko, Japan. The day started out in Tokyo and I put my Japanese train navigation skills to the test. I hit the road with all my stuff to join Aito and Yuga up in Nikko to watch them play. It was pretty smooth sailing and I enjoyed my 3 hour journey to Nikko station. Kumiko (Yuga’s Mom) picked me up at the station and we went for Soba noodles before the game. They were outstanding. I am a sucker for all Japanese noodles but these were top notch. After lunch we went to the Nikkō Kirifuri Ice Arena for the first game of the tournament. It was sick to see the game in person. Like everyone else, I’ve been watching the Japanese players mostly on the internet. Here was my chance to watch the competition in person. I was really excited with the level of play. In this video the Warriors dominate their opponent and Aito and Yuga finish with multiple points each. It was really fun filming this video but even more fun to edit it. I was having a blast re living this once in a lifetime experience and I hope you get a true sense of how cool it was to be there. Thanks a lot to Yuga and Aito for being such good hosts and having me up to watch them play. Enjoy Glimpz 16 part 1.

Time flies. Just a short while ago, we were introducing ourselves to Aito on Instagram. That led to a friendly back and forth which eventually led to a trip to Japan to skate with Aito and the Saitama Jr. Warriors. this was over two years ago. While on that first journey to Japan we were introduced to Aito’s teammate and good buddy Yuga. Aito and his father had Yuga and his mother Kumiko drive us up to the Hossoo Dome Rink in Nikko Japan. It was a magical day. We got to skate together and send a whole day traveling through Japan. We all became friends after this journey and stayed in close contact. This year we went back to Japan and spent a lot more time together. We skated with the boys and celebrated New Years together. Before we left to return home, we started talking about opportunities for the boys to come over to North America and skate. With the ultimate goal of making it to the NHL, it was agreed upon that playing in Japan has its limitations. There was an opportunity to that was perfect for Aito and Yuga to come over and compete against Both American skaters. It was the USHL Combine. The best of the best 2003 birth year players would all be in Chicago battling it out and chasing after that hockey dream. If you ever dreamed of playing Junior hockey and eventually playing for a living this is a great opportunity. My old teammate, Doug Christansen is the director of player development and recruitment for the USHL, which is the top junior league in the country. He was more than happy to offer the boy each a spot at the camp. They both jumped at the opportunity and came over from Japan to test their skills. The camp went great for both guys. Each of them showcasing their talents in front of many scouts from all over the county. It was great for us to be there to witness them playing in the camp. I went to every game they played and it was awesome. Got some sweet footage and a highlight video hopefully coming soon. After it was all over, it was time to do the weekly instagram LIVE giveaway. I asked the boys to join the live and answer your questions. It was really fun. We had kids from all over the world join the stream and get to talk to Aito and Yuga personally. We gave away some Buttendz grips and this sis the footage of how we did it. Aito and Yuga behind the scenes. Stay tuned for new vids to follow.

You asked for it and here it is. Whenever I ask you guys what video we should make next, a lot of you suggest that I should do a “What’s in my bag” video. I had just finished up 3 days of a pop up shop at the ChiTown Shuffle in Chicago. I had all my stuff with me so I thought that it was a perfect time to shoot this video. I get to show you the essential items that I carry around now as “Rob from Buttendz.” It was also good timing because I just got my new Massive Blade Steel and I needed to put them on my skates and get them dialed in at the Pro Shop. The Rink that we were set up at this weekend was called Mount Prospect Arena and there is a Jerry’s Hockey Shop there. Jerry’s has been selling Buttendz grips now for a while so it worked perfectly to include them in the video. Bill, the manager of the shop is one of the best at sharpening skates so I asked him if he could sharpen my new wheels and include him in the video. He was great and did an amazing job on my skates and also in the video. Hope you guys like it.

Stay tuned for outtakes at the end as well. Music by Be Svendsen – Live @ Fusion 2015

It’s pretty cool to go LIVE on instagram and record a video answering your questions. I got a bunch of questions from your guys on Snapchat @buttendz. I picked a few and answered them on this video. We talk about girls hockey and the growing opportunity for women in sports, how to I get better at taking hits and not being afraid and also, how do I become a BEAmbassador and more. Hope you guys like, there is no editing here. We recorded the whole thing in one shot while on Instagram LIVE. If you like the content make sure you sub the channel.
